UPCOMING EVENTS FOR 2008

We have a lot to celebrate and want to share it with you all!

Old Fashioned Hymn Sings will be scheduled at several churches in Michigan and Indiana this year.  Spring and Fall are the best times to schedule one of these events, as that doesn’t conflict with our busiest fund-raising period.  Each host church will be asked to open their church to the public and other local churches to attend for an evening of congregational singing of the old favorite hymns. ORCF will arrange all publicity.  Free-will offerings will be taken to benefit The Old Rugged Cross Church restoration. If you think your church and/or pastor would be interested in hosting such an event, please call the ORCF office at 269-683-4540.

bulletSeptember 6  -- An Old Fashioned Hymn Sing will be held at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, located at 11721 Pucker St., Niles, Mich.  The Hymn Sing will begin at 6:00 pm and will be followed by an Ice Cream Social.  There is no charge for the event, but a free-will offering will be taken to benefit the restoration of the ORC Church.

bullet September 13 -- Praise Service in the ORC Garden (weather permitting – otherwise, inside the Pokagon UMC) featuring The Garretts singing Country Gospel music. Deb and Jesse Garrett have a unique style of music and a witness that may surprise you.

bullet September 14 -- Annual Celebration in the ORC Garden (celebrating the 95th year since the hymn was first sung in the old church).  The Garretts will once again entertain us with their Country Gospel music.  Rev. David Devoll, pastor of Coulters Chapel in Niles, will bring the message of the cross.

bullet September 28 – An Open House will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 to show the public how much has been accomplished in the past 12 months.  The public will be invited into the sanctuary where the first floor since 1915 now exists.  Although far from finished, the building can now be used for some public gatherings, which gives it the capability of helping to support the restoration.

bullet October 18 -- Open House at The Old Rugged Cross Church and Annual Fall Festival, Craft and Bake Sale at the Pokagon United Methodist Church.  The fall festival offers crafts, fall produce, baked goods, home-canned delights, and a few tables of white elephant items. Lunch is also available.  Tours will be offered at the Open House, giving an opportunity to see first-hand all the improvements that have been made in the past year.

Other events will be added as they become scheduled.
Information about scheduling group (or single) site tours is available by calling the ORCF office at 269-683-4540.
